What is diversity and why is it important in the creative industry?

More than ever, it is becoming evident that creativity and inclusion go hand in hand. They are, “two sides of the same coin…if you care about design, you have to care about inclusion”, according to design evangelist John Maeda.

The topic of diversity in the creative industry is becoming more and more popular in conferences, events and meet ups around the world. We want to explore this very important topic at a grass-roots level, looking at how diversity can be fostered within a company and why leveraging it is necessary for success in the creative industry.

Each of us has a unique voice, bringing with it a wealth of personal experience and perspective – a diversity of thought that contributes to a more varied and better approach to innovative problem solving. Let’s celebrate the diverse talent in our industry and learn how we can both help create and become role models for others.

“Where do new ideas come from? The answer is simple: differences. Creativity comes from unlikely juxtapositions.” —Nicholas Negroponte
